Selecting check valves: why cracking pressure matters more than size
Oversized check valves chatter, wear seats and fail early. A short guide to matching disc dynamics to actual flow.

A check valve sized to the pipe rather than the flow spends its life partly open, with the disc oscillating in the stream. The result is seat wear, noise and, on pump stop, slam.
Size to the minimum flow that must hold the disc fully open, and choose the pattern — swing, tilting disc, nozzle — for the closing speed the system needs.
